Medical Teleconferencing Centers Now Open
It was one ribbon cutting, but at two different locations. Two health care specialists in Chicago cut one section of red ribbon, and a supporter in Springfield cut another section, at the dedication of The McKenzie Teleconference Center at the Noll Medical Pavilion.

The teleconferencing center will help families of children with disabilities and their doctors to talk with specialists who focus on autism, mental illness, and other disabilities.

Brian Allen, vice president of health care partnerships at the Hope Institute for Children and Families, which also has space at the Noll Medical Pavilion, says this means geography is no longer a problem when helping kids. He says families who live hours away from specialists will now be able to meet with them via the Internet because of the teleconferencing abilities.

Another purpose for the center is training. He says a recent brown-bag training featured a nationally known expert on autism, who was in New York to speak to the 40 people who attended in Springfield, and the 70 at locations throughout the rest of Illinois.
