Knox County Residents Sentenced in Child Porn Cases
Two Knox County residents who faced charges in separate but similar federal child pornography cases are looking at serious prison sentences following court appearances this week.

Both were in federal court in Peoria. The U.S. Attorney's Office there says 39-year old Mark Hathaway of East Galesburg received a 15-year prison sentence this week on charges of possession and distribution of child pornography, while 53-year old Stephen Olinger of Abingdon was handed almost 13-years in prison on possession charges.

In Olinger's case, prosecutors say he had child pornography in his possession in August of last year, that was discovered through an investigation that involved officials from multiple agencies, including the Illinois Attorney General's Office, U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement or ICE, Decatur and Abingdon Police, and the London, England Metropolitan Police Department.

Olinger pleaded guilty in Feburary after he waived being formally indicted, and has been ordered to start his prison sentence July seventh.

In the case of Hathaway, he was arrested in October of last year, and reportedly admitted to distributing child pornography in March of last year, and had such material in his possession between March and the time of his arrest.

That investigation included law enforcement and cybercrime officials from Illinois, Mississippi, and South Carolina.

Hathaway had been in the custody of U.S. Marshalls ever since his arrest and will now be sent to federal prison.
