City-Owned Properties Could Be Up for Sale After Tonight
What has become an annual city event that always seems to draw some sort of contention will be one of the first things considered by the new Galesburg City Council tonight.
Aldermen Wayne Dennis and Corinne Andersen, along with new mayor Sal Garza, will all be seated at tonight's council meeting. Then, they along with their six colleagues will be asked to consider the authorization of the sale of 67 different properties or parcels of land.

The properties typically are acquired by the city through demolition and other means. If aldermen approve, the city properties would be posted for sale starting May 9th, and bids would be received by the City Council June 15th. If the City Council authorizes the sale process to go forward, aldermen would still have to reject or accept the bids received. The City requires those wishing to purchase the properties to provide a development plan.

Aldermen tonight will also consider providing a revolving loan to CII Embroidery for the proposed purchase and rehabbing of the East Main Street property they currently rent, and will also consider allowing the Knox County YMCA to go forward with the building of a new parking lot.

A reception for outgoing mayor Gary Smith and the outgoing aldermen will be held at 6:30, with regular meeting at 7:30, all at Galesburg City Hall.
