Galesburg Woman Dies in Motorcycle Crash in Fulton County
UPDATED 10:43 a-m 6/1/09 A motorcycle crash in Fulton County over the weekend claimed the life of a Galesburg woman.

District 14 State Police at Macomb say the accident happened around 1 p-m Saturday on Illinois Route 78, about a quarter-mile north of Owens Road in Norris. Troopers say 38-year old Jennifer Main died after the motorcycle she was a passenger on collided with a trailer being pulled by a Chevy Suburban. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Fulton County Coroner Steve Hines.

Officials say the driver of the bike, identified as 37-year old Jason Ferguson of Galesburg, was airlifted to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria with serious injuries.

Police say the motorcycle was southbound on Route 78 when Ferguson attempted to pass in a no passing zone, failed to observe oncoming traffic and struck the driver's side door of the SUV and the trailer the vehicle was towing. Main was ejected from the motorcycle.

Officials say neither the driver or a passenger in the Suburban were injured and both were wearing seatbelts.

Assisting state police at the scene were the Fulton County Sheriff's Department, Fulton County Ambulance, Life Flight, the Copperas Creek Fire Department and the Fulton County Coroner's office.
