Lawmakers Consider New Prevailing Wage Law
Illinois House Republicans are on the warpath against "prevailing wage" in some private projects. A bill which has passed the Senate would require construction and remodeling work in enterprise zones and tax increment financing districts to pay the state-set wage, even if the facility is a home or private business.

While Democrats and labor groups say prevailing wage never brings the bad news Republicans threaten, lawmakers along Illinois' borders are particularly worried. State Rep. Roger Eddy (R-Hutsonville), whose district is in Southeastern Illinois, jokes it benefits other states so much, the bill may have been planted here by the Indiana General Assembly!

S.B. 43 has been recommended by the House Labor Committee and awaits action in the House.
