Quinn Still Has Work for Lawmakers to Do
Gov. Pat Quinn says lawmakers must approve ethics reform, a capital bill and approve his proposed budget by May 31 for the benefit of Illinoisans.

Speaking in Chicago Tuesday, Quinn would not talk of specifics in terms of how or if the proposed bills would pass but did say if lawmakers in Springfield fail to act, Quinn himself could head up a petition drive. "I like gathering signatures," Quinn told a group of reporters.

Quinn called the Reform Commission's report a "blueprint" to reform in Illinois. The governor won't specifically say how all of the recommendations would be presented to lawmakers. He at one time called for an up-or-down vote on each proposal, but now believes some reforms could be bundled.

While recall was not included in the Reform Commission's report, Quinn says he still wants to work with lawmakers on the issue. He also said he's willing to work with lawmakers on tax reform, although he didn't set a timetable.
