Three Hurt After Sleepy Driver Allegedly Causes Crash in Henderson County
An accident in Henderson County sent three people to a nearby hospital for treatment.

District 14 State Police at Macomb say the two-vehicle crash happened around 1:45 Tuesday afternoon on U-S Route 34, 1/4 mile west of Henderson County Road 1600 East near Biggsville.

Troopers say the driver of one of the vehicles, identified as 17-year old Erica Alvarez of Fort Madison, Iowa, was treated for minor injuries and released from Great River Medical Center in Burlington following the accident. A passenger in her vehicle, 16-year old Miguel Alvarez, also of Fort Madison, and the driver of a truck tractor - 50-year old Jeffrey True of Mattoon - were both treated for minor injuries at the same hospital and released.

Police say Erica Alvarez was driving eastbound on Route 34 about 1/2 mile west of Henderson County Road 1600 East when she fell asleep at the wheel and crossed into the westbound lane of traffic. True, who was westbound on Route 34, saw the Alvarez vehicle - according to authorities - and applied his breaks and turned prior to the collision.

Troopers cited Alvarez for improper lane usage. Her vehicle sustained major damage, and authorities say no alcohol or drugs were involved in the mishap.
