Another Contentious Relationship Forming at Illinois Capitol
Relations were icy between then-Gov. Rod Blagojevich and House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) last year, but some new ice is forming between Madigan and his Republican counterpart -- House Minority Leader Tom Cross (R-Oswego).

During a speech Wednesday before the Illinois Retail Merchants Association and the Illinois Manufacturer's Association, Madigan said the situation between he and Cross is "not too good." Madigan criticized Cross by saying that Cross "isn’t there" when it comes to a building and construction plan. But Cross says he doesn’t understand that, saying Republicans in his caucus voted for the mini-capital plan. Cross says Madigan is just following his pattern of deciding he doesn't want to do something himself, then finding someone else to blame.
