Quinn Says He Supports Madigan's "Fumigation"
Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) introduced a bill Thursday that, if passed, would give Governor Pat Quinn 60 days to fire roughly 3,000 state employees appointed between January 1999 and January 2009.

Essentially, that means any appointment to a state agency, board or commission made by either former governor George Ryan or Rod Blagojevich.

Quinn, who vowed to fumigate state government upon taking office in January, says he supports the bill and hopes it passes. He defended himself when asked why he's moving so slowly in getting rid of the Blagojevich or Ryan appointees by saying current statutes don't allow him to do so. But, if the new measure passes as written, Quinn will be forced to fire said appointees within 60 days. He could, however, reappoint them after he fires them.

Madigan says he introduced H.B. 4450 because Quinn is not moving fast enough.
