Police Investigate Stalking Incident
Galesburg Police are trying to figure out who might have been trying to prey on young children near a local school.

Police reports indicate officers were called to Churchill Junior High School around 8:30 Wednesday morning on a report of a suspicious activity. Reports say a 14-year old girl was walking to the school and was in the area of Maple and Benard Streets when she noticed a vehicle she thought might have her mother or cousin inside. The driver of the vehicle asked the girl if she smoked and if she wanted to skip school. The girl said no to both questions, and police said the man said he'd be waiting the next day.

The suspect in the case was allegedly driving a tan or cream-colored four-door vehicle, and is believed to be a white male 25 to 27 years old, with brown partially-curly hair and brown eyes, who had a thin beard and a green stocking cap.

Police believe that's essentially the same description given for a similar incident reported Monday at West and Mary Streets, with the exception of the vehicle being driven.

Officers are providing extra patrols in the area for the time being, but ask if you see anything suspicious, to call police or the Galesburg-Area CrimeStoppers Hotline at 344-0044 or 1-888-266-0044.
