Drew Peterson Arrested, Charged With Murder of Third Wife
Former Bolingbrook police sergeant Drew Peterson was arrested at a traffic stop near his home on Thursday and charged with first-degree murder in the death of his third wife, Kathleen Savio.

He is in the Will County jail on a $20 million bond. Peterson found tabloid fame following the disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, who has been missing for more than a year and a half. Peterson remains a suspect in her disappearance.

Will County State's Attorney, James Glasgow says he will try this case himself. Glasgow called the case a "grave and serious" matter, which is reflected in the amount of the bond. He plans to use statements Kathleen Savio made to others indicating she felt Peterson was a threat to her. Those statements would be an exception to the hearsay rule.

Savio was found dead in a dry bathtub in 2004. Her head was soaked in blood from a head wound. Savio's death was initially ruled an accident.

The case was reopened after Peterson's fourth wife, Stacy, disappeared and ruled a homicide that had been staged to look like an accident. Savio's death occurred just before the couple's divorce would have been finalized.

At his arrest Thursday evening, The Herald-News of Joliet reports a handcuffed Peterson said "I guess I should have returned those library books."
