Illinois School Districts Contemplating Higher Ticket Prices to Help Athletic Budgets
To shore up athletic budgets, many school districts throughout Illinois are considering raising ticket prices.

Illinois High School Association assistant executive director Kurt Gibson worries about ticket prices being raised to the point that schools lose business at the box office, but he understands schools don’t want to lose money either.

He says the IHSA has the same concerns itself: "We'll operate a number of tournaments during the year at a deficit, and if we don’t have, at some of our bigger events, good crowds to help offset some of those costs, then we're gonna be in the same spot our [member] schools are, asking ourselves can we still afford to put out this product even though we know we’re not gonna generate any dollars at the end of it," he said.

In addition to raising ticket prices, schools are considering pay-to-play fees for athletes.
