Risinger Not Happy with State Budget Process
A local lawmaker says his colleagues in the Illinois Senate have skirted their responsibility of putting together a good, balanced budget, and instead, has approved a budget that does more of the same.

37th District State Senator Dale Risinger says the budget the Senate passed early Friday morning that was awaiting House action leaves nearly $4-billion in pension payments not made, and Risinger says it includes more borrowing and, in his words, "slight of hand."

Risinger says the budget does nothing to solve any of the state's budget mess. "That only kicks the can down the road and we will have the same problems next year even if we get to next year," Risinger said. "We may not even get to next year with this amount of revenue coming in with the amount of spending that we plan to do."

Risinger and other GOP lawmakers are complaining that they were left out of the budget negotiations, with just hours left to go before the General Assembly's summer break.

Risinger accuses the Democrats of, in his words, separating out part of a capital program to make the GOP look like they're more interested in construction than social programs and paying the state's bills.
