IL House Passes Resolution on Arizona
The Illinois legislature is not too tied up with its own doings to take a moment to criticize lawmakers in another state.

The House passed a resolution condemning Arizona's new crackdown on illegal immigrants. Police there are encouraged to stop people who look as if they could be illegal immigrants, if they have a "reasonable suspicion."

State Rep. Edward Acevedo (D-Chicago) sponsored the resolution. A dissenter, Rep. Randy Ramey (R-Carol Stream), reminded supporters Arizona is targeting only illegal immigrants. Ramey noted that Mexico throws its illegal immigrants into jail, while in what Ramey called "politically correct America," merely asking someone to produce their papers seemingly qualifies the person asking for Ku Klux Klan membership.

The criticism of the law, however, is that the enforcement effort will affect U.S. citizens, who are not required to carry and produce documentation.

HJR 119 passed the House on a voice vote.
