UConn President Taking Top Spot at Illinois
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- The University of Illinois is ready to introduce its next president.

University of Connecticut President Michael Hogan will make appearances in Chicago, Champaign and Springfield Wednesday, after being named the U of I's 18th president.

The Board of Trustees is scheduled to vote on Hogan's appointment next Thursday (May 20), but that's expected to be a formality.

The 66-year old Hogan will be asked to navigate some of the toughest economic times the university has faced. The state is more than $380 million behind on payments to the school.

Hogan also will have to continue to fix damage from last year's scandal over political influence on admissions. That led to the resignation of his predecessor, B. Joseph White.
