GrainStore Elevators Purchased by Nebraska-Based Company
FIRST REPORTED 11:00am 5/12/10The president of a local grain merchandising business that's teaming up with a larger, similar type of business believes the move is a win-win situation for customers and employees.

Galesburg-based GrainStore Elevators, which operates eight elevators and a receiving station in the area, is being acquired by Omaha, Nebraska based Gavilon Grain. Gavilon has a network of 74 facilities across the United States and is the country's fifth largest grain merchandising operation.

GrainStore President Marty Anderson tells WGIL discussion between the companies has been going on since January, and Gavilon will be an excellent partner.

"I think their culture is one that meshes well with ours," Anderson said. "They're very entrepreneurial, they're excited about growing their business. They've got a great mix of resources that, I think, are going to enable us to expand our business, expand the products that we offer and, hopefully, allow us to more effectively and efficiently service the customers."

Anderson says there won't be many changes to the operations of the business his family has been involved with since the early 1960s. He says Gavilon intends to retain all 25 of GrainStore's current employees.

The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of this month.
