IL Congressmen Sleep in Offices -- In a Good Way
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Illinois Congressman Mike Quigley sometimes falls asleep in his Washington office -- but he isn't sleeping on the job.

The Chicago Democrat regularly sleeps in the office overnight, and he isn't the only member of the House bunking in the congressional offices.

It's an issue of both frugality and image. Quigley earns $174,000 a year -- but he has two daughters in private college and a home in Chicago to pay for.

Quigley adds that he isn't interested in planting roots in the nation's capital. He says the fact that he doesn't have a home there reinforces the point that he lives in his Illinois district.

Illinois Democrats Dan Lipinski and Luis Gutierrez also sleep in their offices. And a spokeswoman says Congressman Bobby Rush either crashes on his office sofa or a hotel bed "depending on his schedule, mood or comfort level."
