Final "Sandburg Series" Lecture May 23
The Carl Sandburg State Historic Site Association annual lecture series concludes at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 23 with "Sandburg's Lincoln, Sandburg's Galesburg and Civil War Memory" presented by Matthew Norman, Assistant Professor of History and Civil War Era Studies at Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The presentation is free and open to the public, and takes place at the Carl Sandburg State Historic Site at 313 E. Third Street in Galesburg.

Professor Norman will discuss Lincoln’s legacy and the memory of the Civil War by exploring Sandburg’s Lincoln biography and the ways in which the memory of the Civil War was contested in Galesburg during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Norman is a native of Lincoln, Nebraska, a graduate of Knox College in Galesburg and has a Ph.D. in U.S. History from the University of Illinois. His current research focuses on Lincoln and the issue of race.

The Carl Sandburg State Historic Site is administered by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency. For more information, visit www.sandburg.org.
