GHS Students Take Part in City Government Day
Sixty GHS freshmen spent the day Wednesday at City Hall. This is the 20th year for this event which augments the students' study of local government.

The day began with a speech by Mayor Garza, and other city staff members, the students learned about the Manager/council form of government, the role of elected officials, and department heads. The students were given tours of the public safety building and city hall. Altrusa and Rotary clubs sponsored a lunch held at Knox College with special speakers from both organizations. Students then returned to city hall to follow the careers of various city staff for the afternoon.

"This gave me an opportunity to get more information on the government activity in my community. I was especially impressed with the brand new dispatch equipment in the police station," student Nik Breslin said.
