School Employee Disciplined After Kids Found Walking Along I-74
PEORIA, Ill. (AP) -- A Peoria elementary school worker has been disciplined after two children were found walking along Interstate 74 last month.

Peoria police say the unidentified 9-year-old boy and his 8-year-old sister had walked a mile from Glen Oak Primary School when they were found on April 29.

According to police, the children say someone at the school told them they'd have to walk to their grandmother's house. Their grandmother lives in Pekin, which is more than 10 miles away.

A truck driver on the interstate spotted the children and stopped. A police lieutenant picked them up when he saw the stopped truck.

School officials aren't naming the worker and won't say how they were disciplined.

Police say the parents have removed the children from the school.
