Chicago Mob Hitman Dies in Galesburg Prison
CHICAGO (AP) -- A reputed Chicago mob hitman convicted in the 1972 slaying of a union official has died in a Galesburg prison, a state spokeswoman says. Harry Aleman was 71.

Aleman died Saturday afternoon at Hill Correctional Center in Galesburg, an Illinois Department of Corrections spokeswoman told the Chicago Tribune.

Spokeswoman Sharyn Elman says no suspicious circumstances surrounded Aleman's death.

Knox County Coroner Mark Thomas says an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Aleman had been serving 100 to 300 years for murdering Teamsters Union shop steward William Logan.

He was initially acquitted in Logan's slaying. But he was re-tried when accusations surfaced that the presiding judge had accepted a $10,000 bribe to acquit Aleman. He was convicted at a 1997 retrial.
