Property Sale to be Discussed by Galesburg Aldermen Monday Night
The proposed sale of land that Galesburg City officials wanted one way, but aldermen wanted another, will be back before the City Council Monday night.

The Galesburg City Council will consider denial of an ordinance that was crafted which would allow the city to sell two parcels of land around the former Regency Hotel and adjacent to the Lakeside Recreation complex, while keeping a third.

City officials had proposed that plan for land the city purchased a number of years ago, as a way to possibly expand Lakeside in the future.

But aldermen said instead they want to see all three parcels separated as one, in part, amid unconfirmed reports a developer wants to tear down the Regency and build new there.

Sixth Ward Alderman Wayne Allen told aldermen at a special meeting two weeks ago he and at least four other aldermen are familiar with such a plan, while Third Ward Alderman Russell Fleming said he is one of the two who must not.

Aldermen Monday night will also hear a presentation from the Galesburg-Area Convention and Visitors Bureau when they convene at 6:30 inside council chambers at City Hall.
