Hare Continues Push for Green Jobs Plan
Calling the latest job creation numbers only a good start, U.S. Rep. Phil Hare (D-Rock Island) promoted a couple of jobs-minded stimulus bills on a tour of his district.

Speaking to reporters in Decatur and Moline as well as at the Capitol in Springfield Monday, Hare said his Security in Energy and Manufacturing (SEAM) Act would provide a 30 percent tax credit for the manufacture of equipment used for alternative energy. One example, Hare said, would be wind turbines, which are now imported from Europe. He says the 17th District has plenty of places -- including the former Maytag plant in Galesburg -- which would be suitable for such work. He says spending money to create jobs is better than spending it on unemployment programs.

Hare is also backing a Local Jobs for America Act, an accelerated grant program to help forestall the laying off of first responders and teachers. He says he hopes the economy comes back enough to carry the extra jobs once the grant money runs out.
