Kirk: AZ Immigration Law "Not Effective"
U.S. Senate candidate Mark Kirk won't say he's against the Arizona immigration law, but he says it will be "not effective."

Kirk, a Republican congressman, says he's not for one state acting alone on immigration. "I understand the way Arizona citizens feel, but one state acting alone can't solve this problem," Kirk said. "This is a core federal responsibility, which is why I'm for completing the wall [along the U.S. border with Mexico] and increasing the size of the border patrol, because I think we can accomplish this mission. We just lack the will in Washington."

Kirk says border defense is a national security concern, and that includes the U.S. borders with Canada, from which the 9-11 terrorists entered the country.

The new law in Arizona requires cops to demand papers from anyone they reasonably suspect is an immigration violator, raising concerns that U.S. citizens, who are not required to carry papers, will be detained.
