Auditor Rips Blago's Legal Costs While Governor
The last 19 months of the Rod Blagojevich years as governor included outside legal help -- lots of it.

The state's auditor general, Bill Holland, says the governor's office oversaw more than $7 million in contracts, many of them without seeking bids, for both general and special legal representation. In most cases, Holland says, the governor's office charged the expenses to other state agencies which seemingly had no relationship to the work being done. The governor's office itself paid only $21,775 of the $7.2 million.

Holland's report looks over 62 contracts -- 29 for general legal work and the rest for work as appointed special assistant attorneys general. But it appears Blagojevich's practice was to bypass the attorney general's office in getting the work secured.

The report can be read by CLICKING HERE (pdf document).
