Orpheum Attendance Projections On Target
The president of the Orpheum Theatre says so far projections are pretty good for a good year at the theatre -- at least, according to people showing up.

Kate Francis told the Knox County Civic Center Authority Board Wednesday that so far, an estimated 15,500 people have either bought tickets, attended free performances, or have reserved seats for upcoming performances at the theatre through this week.

Francis says her goal is to get at least 30,000 in attendance at the theatre this year, and with less than half of the year completed, projections are still in her favor.

Also in terms of attendance, Francis says the annual "Lights! Camera! Learn! Series of educational-based performances also is experiencing increased attendance.

Francis says 4,500 students have attended those performances so far this year -- an increase of 45% over last year.

The Civic Center Authority Board Wednesday also heard a plea from the Galesburg Landmark Commission, encouraging the Civic Center Authority Board to apply to have the Orpheum be declared a local landmark.

Francis says, however, a similar effort failed two years ago due to concerns that one the status is given, improvements to the building can't necessarily be made.
