Case Continued for Man Accused of 1998 Murder
FIRST REPORTED 3:00pm 5/25/10 The case of a Monmouth man accused of killing a young girl he was believed to be in the process of adopting over 10 years ago won't go to trial for at least another month.

56-year old Tommy Richardson was in Warren County Circuit Court Tuesday afternoon for a pre-trial hearing on charges of first-degree murder.

But at the request of Public Defender Tom Siegel, the case was continued until July 27th.

Prosecutors, represented by Assistant State's Attorney Scott McClintock, had no objection to the move, and Judge Dwayne Morrison granted it.

Richardson was arrested in late-February after being indicted by a grand jury for allegedly suffocating three-year old Kayla Richardson with a plastic grocery bag in late-June of 1998.

The case had been closed and considered cold until late-last year, when Monmouth Police Chief Brad Ziegler decided to re-open it.

Richardson remains held in the Warren County Jail on $750,000 bond.
