Shots Fired Near Knox College; Two Suspects Wanted
No one was hurt, but police are investigating what might have been a frightening incident for students in the area of Knox College Thursday night.

Police say shots were allegedly fired in that area around 11pm, by one of two men they say were walking southbound on South Academy Street. That information, investigators say, came from a Knox College student they interviewed but was corroborated by another witness.

The student told investigators she was walking on West Berrien Street toward South Academy Street when she saw the two -- one of which was believed to be a white or Hispanic male around 18 years old, and the other a black male around 21. She says she doesn't know what was said, but that the two got into a verbal altercation with people passing by in a dark, green SUV that was later taken into evidence.

The SUV turned around at some point and came back toward the two, at which time police believe at least six shots were fired.

Investigators say the people in the SUV identified the suspects, but names are not being released unless the two end up being arrested.

Police were also believed to be reviewing security camera footage of the area provided by Knox College security.

Police are asking anyone who might have seen what happened, or who have more information, to call their office or the Galesburg-area Crimestoppers hotline.

No one was hurt.
