Orpheum Breaks Sponsorship Record with "Survivor" Concert
The Orpheum Theatre has announced that it has beaten its previous sponsorship record of $5,000 for a single Red Carpet Series show (The Temptations, December 2007). The June 19 appearance by the Grammy- and Oscar-winning rock band, Survivor, garnered $7,500 in underwriting from three corporate sponsors: Galesburg Cottage Hospital, F&M Bank and Bud Light Golden Wheat /G&M Distributors.

"The mission of the Red Carpet Series is to bring acts of national and international quality to Galesburg," said Orpheum president Kate Francis in a prepared release. "And there is significant cost to achieving that mission. Without generous corporate underwriting such as we have on the Survivor show, the Orpheum Theatre would have two options: 1. eliminate the Red Carpet Series entirely or 2. increase ticket prices well beyond our community's spending threshold."

Francis indicated that expense for music productions with headliners like Survivor, The Temptations, Little River Band or the Doobie Brothers can exceed tens of thousands of dollars when adding up the artist's fee, booking agent fees, supplementary audio and lighting equipment, audio and lighting technicians, stage crews, catering, lodging and transportation.

"The Orpheum also doesn't have the revenue flexibility of venues like casinos where a big show's expense might be supplemented by people's losses at the tables in addition to the tickets purchased," added Francis.

"The Orpheum Theatre is deeply grateful to all of its corporate contributors and individual donors whose generosity makes it possible for the theater to continue bringing top-notch, national talent to our historic stage at a reasonable price; particularly in this economy."

Survivor appears at the Orpheum Theatre on Saturday, June 19 at 8 pm. Tickets range from $30 - $50 and are available at the Orpheum Theatre box office, on-line at www.theorpheum.org or by phone 309-342-2299.
