Downtown Galesburg Gift Shop Gets a Makeover
One of the fundraising arms of a local charity is back in business after about a month or so off.

The former Cottage Corner Gift Shop has officially reopened as "Community Treasures" -- still operated by the Galesburg Community Foundation. Officials cut the ribbon Friday marking the grand-opening.

Galesburg Community Foundation Executive Director Josh Gibb tells WGIL the remodeling project was done primarily so the shop could, in his words, better tell the story of the Foundation.

"Before, we didn't think that there was enough space to be able to talk about the good things that we are doing with our grant-making, with our scholarship programs, and things like that," Gibb said. "So, that was the goal throughout the whole process. We've done some minor renovations inside as far as redesign of space. We've repainted, re-labeled different departments, we've re-carpeted -- just upgrades, just renovations, that kind of spruce the place up."

The Community Treasures shop accepts donations of so-called "gently used" items from clothing to home decor and even records and tapes, and is open 9 to 4:30 Monday through Friday, and 9 to 1 on Saturday.

All the proceeds benefit the Galesburg Community Foundation.
