State Issues Tattoo Removal Warning
The state is sending a warning to those looking to have ink removed.

The Illinois Department of Public Health is warning residents who are considering having a tattoo removed to have the procedure done by a reputable doctor.

According to Dr. Carolyn Jacob, a dermatologist with a private practice and an instructor at Northwestern University, tattoo removal must be done under the supervision of a physician.

Since March 2009 the state has imposed more stringent rules on the use of laser equipment in non-medical, cosmetic settings.

Jacob says tattoo removal requires many different lasers to remove various colors of ink. She says physicians must examine a patient first to determine an appropriate course of treatment.

The IDPH sends the warning as weather warms up, and skin revealing short sleeve shirts and shorts come out of the closet.
