Blago Faces Fight of His Life
CHICAGO (AP) -- In the year and a half since his arrest, former governor Rod Blagojevich has lost his job and become a political pariah and a comic punch line. But he's repeated declarations of innocence that are vintage Blago. In the limelight, he's never given an inch.

The melodrama is expected to culminate Thursday in the start of Blagojevich's trial. He's accused of trying to trade or sell President Barack Obama's vacant Senate seat for personal gain.

Friend-turned-critic, state Rep. John Fritchey, says there's always been what he calls "a damn-the-torpedoes aspect" to Blagojevich's personality.

And politics professor Kent Redfield adds Blagojevich has a supreme confidence in his ability to win people over.

But Blagojevich's loose-lipped style has some wondering if his endless patter's designed to show potential jurors he's full of political bluster, not criminal intent.
