Quinn, Brady Differ on Sales Tax Holiday
The two men running for governor are at opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to the idea of a sales tax holiday. House Democrats are considering an eight-day sales tax holiday in August that would target school supplies as a way to help consumers and boost sales.

While Gov. Pat Quinn, a Democrat, says he's open the plan as part of a budget deal, his opponent, State Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington), wants no part of it. Brady says that's just part of Quinn's populist approach, and Brady says if he gives a tax break, it would be more broad and permanent.

The scheduled adjournment date of Friday is nearly here, and budget talks among Democrats have to deal with a setback, in that a plan to borrow $3.7 billion to help fix a $13 billion budget hole didn't have enough votes to pass in the House, although the measure was pulled from consideration and could be voted on again.
