Late Night Senate Session Results in Their Own Budget
The Illinois Senate has passed its own version of a budget package, trying to send the House a message that it has principle that it wants recognized. But the biggest principal seemed to be pushing Republicans to vote for their own building and construction projects.

Senate Democrats cut projects in all Republican Senate districts, then offered an amendment to put those projects back into the budget. While Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago) says last year's deal on capital projects left these kinds of votes open, Senator Matt Murphy (R-Palatine) disagreed, saying Republicans put 11 votes on the funding stream for building and construction with the agreement that Republicans wouldn't be shut out of the spoils. Democrats ended up voting to put the GOP projects back in.

The House and Senate now have to agree on one plan for the budget to be final.
