Law Language, 65 m.p.h. Speed Limit Law Considered By House
(IRN) -- Illinois is poised to be more sensitive when it comes to referring to the disabled. The House and Senate have passed a bill which would change references to the "retarded" and "crippled" to "intellectually disabled" and "physically disabled." The bill is based on "Rosa's Law," named for Rosa Marcellino, a Maryland girl with Down's syndrome.

Another bill would give truckers more miles of Illinois roadway on which they could drive 65 mph. The bill -- which excludes the counties of Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, and Will -- makes uniform the speed limits for cars and trucks on four-lane divided highways, regardless of whether they are part of the interstate highway system.

SB 1833 ("Rosa's Law") has passed the House, 112-0.

SB 1913 (truck speed) has passed the House, 82-29.

Both bills go to the governor.
