NIU Volunteers Painted School Official's House
DEKALB, Ill. (AP) -- A Northern Illinois University official who oversees the school's annual volunteer day says it was "poor judgment" to have students paint her home that day last year.

Angela Dreessen is NIU's director of student involvement and leadership development.

She tells the Chicago Tribune that her staff suggested having the students paint the outside of her house.

She says they were worried about running out of projects for the 2,000 student volunteers. And she says staff considered the painting a community service project because her neighborhood was flooded two years earlier.

The university announced Friday that Dreessen will be reassigned to a different position.

Brian Hemphill, vice president for student affairs, says the move is unrelated to last year's NIU Cares Day.

Student fees largely pay for the $20,000 event.
