Galesburg School Board Hears About Bullying
The new Galesburg School Board got its first big test thrown at them Monday night, in the form of ongoing parental concerns about bullying.

Two parents and a Galesburg High School student addressed the board Monday night, concerned the district was doing nothing about bullying, even after a television report aired last week showing a page on the social networking site Facebook that listed students at GHS to be harassed or bullied.

Parent Sally Jennings told the board enough is enough, and that she doesn't think that District officials, Galesburg Police, or the Knox County State's Attorney are taking parents seriously.

"If they would have just listened to me from the get go when I talked to them about this instead of just shunning me away, I talked to them - they shunned me, said 'Oh there's nothing going on in this school' when clearly I have documentation there was even from numerous teachers and everything else."

A bullying workshop is being held Thursday night at 6:30 at the Galesburg Public LIbrary. But that was scheduled by circumstance through the Knox County Regional Office of Education.

District board members said they would take the parents' concerns under consideration. GHS Principal Tom Chiles says he had the Facebook page in question removed last week.
