City Council Sworn In, Budget Adjustments on Schedule
New members and new spending are the highlights of Monday night's Galesburg City Council meeting.

Aldermen Monday evening will vote on around $2 million in new spending to the city budget for this year. City officials tell WGIL most of the increases are for more housing demolitions, but others are for work done last year, but not paid for just yet.

Fund balances from last year's budget and other monies will be used, meaning, the city can technically afford the expenses.

Also, the new members of the Galesburg City Council will be seated Monday night. Jeremy Karlin will replace Mike Lummis officially as seventh ward alderman, and Peter Schwartzman will replace Karen Lafferty in the 5th ward. Ken Goad in the first ward, and Russell Fleming in the third ward, were the two incumbents that won their seats in last month's election.

A reception for outgoing City Council members will be held at 5:30 Monday night, followed by the regular meeting at 6:30, all in council chambers at City Hall.

New members in other city councils are expected to be sworn in Monday night as well.
