Smoking and Gambling Don't Always Go Together
(IRN)-A newly released survey says it's a myth that smoking and gambling always go together. The survey, conducted by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and touted by the American Lung Association, says smokers make up about the same percentage of Illinois gamblers than they do the state's entire population, about twenty percent.

The announcement is intended to deflect some lawmakers' attempts to make exceptions to the state's nonsmoking law, which casino officials blame for a drop in business. State Senator Terry Link (D-Waukegan), who supports both casinos and Smoke Free Illinois, says there's no connection, invoking the famous quote: "It's the economy stupid."
