House Passes Tenative Budget
(IRN)-With a budget deficit in the tens of billions, and little more than two weeks left on the clock for passing a budget before the May 31 deadline, the Illinois House of Representatives passed its version of the state budget Friday. But the process is far from over.

The seven budget bills met the House's $33.2 billion revenue estimate, the most conservative of any estimates involved in the process. The Illinois Senate is crafting a budget that will comply with its estimated revenues of around $34.3 billion.

In February, the governor outlined his budget proposal based on $35.4 billion in revenue estimates for Fiscal Year 2012.

Differences in budgets from both chambers will have to be reconciled before a finished budget can go to the governor. But House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) says this is the earliest he can remember passing a budget out of the Illinois House.

House Minority Leader Tom Cross (R-Oswego), whose caucus has been calling for budget cuts ever since January's income tax increase, said he's happy with how the budget process went this year.

The Illinois Senate is still working on passing their version of the budget.

The seven bills that comprise the budget passed by the Illinois House are:
-HB0327
-HB0123
-HB2168
-HB2189
-HB0124
-HB3700
-HB3717
