One Dead when Truck hits Metra Train
MOUNT PROSPECT, Ill. (AP) -- Authorities say a man drove his truck into the path of a Metra commuter train, derailing two passenger cars.

The truck driver, Kazimierz Karasek was killed and at least 26 passengers were taken to hospitals and 10 others were treated on the scene.

Police say the 59-year-old Karasek of Prospect Heights apparently disregarded a ``No Left Turn'' sign as well as downed gates and crossing lights to drive into the path of the train.

Metra spokeswoman Judy Pardonett says the train's passengers were evacuated after the collision in Mount Prospect on Friday. The collision also started a fire under one of the cars, but all of the train's cars remained upright.

The collision ended with the cab of the truck separated from the rest of the vehicle.
