Health Department Hoping for Level Funding
State entities and organizations are keeping a close eye on Springfield as lawmakers get into the thick of budget negotiations.

The Knox County Health Department is no exception as they face possible cuts in the fiscal year 2012 budget, but Administrator Heidi Britton says the most important thing is to get the word out about the potential harm that could cause.

"They have to hear that they have to preserve the local health protection money, that is what we do, that is our communicable diseases, that is our food inspections, that is safe drinking water, so it's just imperative that it stays at level funding."

Britton says statewide health protections could see a six to ten percent cut, but two more weeks left in the legislative session, it's too early to tell what will happen with the state budget.

Both the House and Senate passed budget bills Friday, but they differed in spending by about a billion dollars.
