City Council to Consider "Woo-Hoo Fund"
That $25,000 the City of Galesburg is in line to win assuming its second place showing in the Readers Digest "We Hear You, America" contest holds up could possibly help fund youth- and community-related programs throughout the city.

The Galesburg City Council Monday night will consider giving any winnings from the contest to the Galesburg Community Foundation so that a charitable fund can be established.

City documents indicate if approved, the city would work with the Community Foundation to come up with a funding agreement that aldermen will later have to approve.

Over two-million votes have been cast for Galesburg in the contest designed for participants to "cheer" for the city of their choice, and the city has had second place for some time, but its lead over Armada, Michigan is narrowing. Rancho Cordova, California is ensconced in first place, with voting ending at 11pm Central Time Monday.

You can find out more about the contest HERE.

Aldermen Monday will also hand out the city's Historic Preservation Awards, consider the first set of documents to lead to quiet zones being established in the city, and will get their first look at ward redistricting maps.

The City Council meets at 6pm Monday starting with a reception for National Historic Preservation Month, followed by the regular meeting at 6:30.
