Schilling Talks Medicare in Galesburg
The U.S. Representative from the 17th District spent some time Monday in Galesburg.

Republican Bobby Schilling was the guest speaker at a legislative luncheon put on by the Galesburg Area Chamber of Commerce.

Schilling spoke about a number of topics including Medicare, which he says is in dire need of changes.

"I like to say that we're going to save medicare," Schilling said. "I don't believe for one minute that it's fair -- I'm 47 years old -- for me to work my tail off my entire life, raising my family, working a couple jobs if I have to, to pay into this thing, and have it go defunct in 12 years. Because that's the path it's on right now."

One problem Schilling says is happening now, is that people don't know what Medicare changes were proposed in part of a recent budget bill.

He says Medicare won't change for people age 55 and older, only for those 54 and younger, yet he gets calls from people in their seventies telling him not to support the changes.
