Bin Laden's Death Doesn't Mean an End to al Qaeda
The U.S. and the world is celebrating Monday after news that terrorist leader Osama bin Laden was killed Sunday by American forces.

While there is cause to celebrate that justice was brought to bin Laden nearly a decade after organizing the attacks of 9/11 on the U.S., a local political science professor says it isn't an end to al Qaeda by any means.

"Al Qaida has never really been an organization, al Qaeda is organizations, plural, that is many different groups that have things in common from a ideological perspective that perhaps share resources sometimes but are pretty independent unfortunately it's not a hierarchical organization so just getting rid of the top figure head doesn't get rid of the organization."

Karen Kampwirth with Knox College says some have even sarcastically speculated that bin Laden's death will fuel further attacks on the U.S. or others seeking to spread democracy, which al Qaeda fundamentally opposes.

Bin Laden was killed Sunday when an American special ops group raided a compounded where he was hiding in Pakistan. He was then buried at sea.
