Knoxville Track Construction Update
So far, so good in the early stages of construction of the new all-weather track and sports complex for the Knoxville School District.

That's according to engineer Shane Larson, who told the District-202 Board Monday night that even with mostly volunteer labor, dirt is already starting to turn at the track, using all-donated equipment.

Larson says while volunteer labor and some donated equipment and materials is being used, there will be times when money will have to be spent, and for good reason.

"Anything over $25,000 -- there's not a question -- we're definitely bidding that out," Larson said. "Also, by law, we have to do that. We're trying to be very cautious about the materials. If we think materials are, overall, going to add up to over $25,000, [Superintendent] Steve [Wilder] and I are working together to get that out."

Larson says things like serious electical work, gravel, some of the rubberized material for the track itself, and other things, are likely going to cost more than $25,000.

Since the work is volunteer, while the hope is to have it ready for next season, there's no telling how long the track construction will take.
