Unclear Funding Picture Crimps Planning for Fair
DU QUOIN, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois' state budget mess is hampering efforts to organize this year's state fair in the southern Illinois city of Du Quoin.

Fair manager John Rednour Jr. tells the (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan that he and other organizers are awaiting word about how much money they might expect from the state before they announce this year's lineup. The fair runs from Aug. 27 through Sept. 5.

Republican State Rep. Mike Bost of Murphysboro says the House proposal for the Du Quoin fair remains at the same level of about $1.5 million. That's in addition to $750,000 earmarked for non-fair operations.

That proposal is now in the Senate's hands.
Funding for state fairs is among items that state lawmakers are looking at to cut costs.
