State Representative Wants More Gaming in Illinois
(IRN)-More places to place a bet could be coming to Illinois, under a proposal a state lawmaker says he could file as early as Thursday.

"At this particular time in Illinois, we need a shot in the arm," says State Representative Lou Lang (D-Skokie). "This is an industry that's done quite well in our state. Yes, their numbers are down recently, but the economy's coming back, and so will gaming."

Lang said Wednesday evening his bill was not completely written but would be similar to attempts he has introduced before. In January, before the last General Assembly adjourned, he gave up on a bill which would have added five casinos, plus slot machines to the state's horse racing tracks.

He said it is likely Chicago and Danville would be included, adding Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has indicated support for a casino.

Says Danville Mayor Scott Eisenhaur, "We're a community that desperately needs the jobs. We're a community that could certainly utilize the additional revenues that a gaming facility could bring about in our community."

The legislature is scheduled to adjourn May 31.
