Former Bookkeeper Admits Bilking Peoria Heights
PEORIA, Ill. (AP) -- A former bookkeeper has pleaded guilty to federal charges that accused her of bilking the village of Peoria Heights out of about $64,000.

Lucy Page-Baksai entered her plea Wednesday to mail fraud, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years behind bars.

The (Peoria) Journal Star reports that Page-Baksai remains free on bond until her Sept. 8 sentencing.

Authorities say she stole cash paid to the village and used checks that hadn't yet been accounted for in the village's books to cover up the theft.

Her defense attorney says the money went into her personal account and she wants to pay restitution.
