Durbin Raises Concerns Over Melatonin Baked Goods
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Senator Dick Durbin is adding his voice to concerns raised over melatonin-laced baked goods.

The commercially available products have catchy names like ``Lazy Cakes'' and ``Lulla Pies,'' and some have high doses of the sleep aid melatonin.

Durbin has asked the Food and Drug Administration to clarify regulation of these products, and he's questioning whether they're being marketed legally.

The products are being sold as dietary supplements to help people relax and fall asleep, rather than foods containing additives. Durbin says they seem to be promoted as alternatives to medications, but that they may not be appropriate for kids and pregnant women.

Two Massachusetts mayors are trying to ban Lazy Cake brownies, which feature a cartoon character some say appeals to kids.
